Joint Communique from the Canadian Dental Association and the Manitoba Dental AssociationCDA / MDA Convention is postponed due to COVID-19

On behalf of the Canadian Dental Association (CDA) and the Manitoba Dental Association (MDA), we are writing to inform you that in the interest of public health and safety and based on the advice of Manitoba Health, the joint CDA / MDA Convention scheduled for April 2 to 4, 2020 in Winnipeg is postponed indefinitely with the possibility of rescheduling the convention at a later date before the end of the year. The COVID-19 situation is fluid and we will continue to monitor the evolution of this pandemic. We will make every effort to inform you as soon as we can of the plans for a possible rescheduled convention.

We hope that you can appreciate that this decision was made with careful consideration for the health of the general public, our members, and those planning to attend the conference. We regret any inconvenience that this may have caused and we appreciate your understanding.

Sincerely,

Dr. Alexander Mutchmor
President
Canadian Dental Association

Dr. Marc Mollot
President
Manitoba Dental Association

It is with great anticipation and pleasure that I welcome you to the MDA/CDA 2020 Annual Meeting and Convention. As Manitobans we are proud to partner with the CDA to bring you a national conference themed “Seeing Dentistry Clearly” April 2-4, 2020 at the RBC Convention Centre.  Our last collaboration with the CDA was in 2014 and the committee and I look forward to meeting you all in the centre of Canada once again.  Along with the MDA, CDA activities, the ICD delegates are gathering in Winnipeg to celebrate their centenary!  The MDA welcomes you all.

This year we saw the light and realized January was too cold a month to hold a national event. So to break with tradition, we are hosting the convention in April, right after the extreme cold, just before hockey playoffs and cottage season.  Now, there is no reason for you not to attend!

Here on the prairies we can’t help but see things clearly; vast wide open spaces, nothing blocking our view.  This is not always the case in dentistry. As dental professionals we sometime lose sight, our vision gets blurred, concepts and basic principles become unclear as we face the ever changing challenges we are presented with.  The Convention Committee has gathered a broad range of talented speakers from across the nation to ensure we all “See Dentistry Clearly”. Our invited speakers are presenting a host of topics from treatment planning, to mental health first aid, from periodontics to oral pathology.  There is something for everyone.   Be sure to go to the website, choose your favourites and register.

I encourage you to visit the exhibit floor featuring over 100 companies offering a wide range of dental products. Test drive the latest gadget, visit a live demonstration.  Don’t forget to scan in for your CE trade show points.

Our convention offers a variety of social choices.  To kick off our weekend we will be hosting an opening reception at the Delta Hotel. Our spousal program begins on Friday morning.  Friday evening is sure to please all at the President’s Gala.  It will be a night of gourmet food, cocktail hour entertainment by Winnipeg’s own Nadia Douglas and live dancing music by The Danny Kramer Band.  Be sure to get your tickets. If you have never been, 2020 is the year to be seen at the Gala!  You won’t be disappointed.

The convention’s ultimate event, our Saturday night closer with none-other than Canada’s comedian, journalist, & author, Rick Mercer!  You don’t want to miss this.  Rick’s “Coast to Coast to Coast” show wraps up the weekend and will surely be the highlight of the convention.

We are collaborating with all of Canada in April 2020, so take advantage of all that is being offered.

I’m looking forward to “Seeing You All Clearly” in 2020.

This is a special year for the International College as 2020 marks the ICD Centennial Anniversary.  In recognition of this milestone, the 2020 ICD Canada Centennial Gala is being held at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights on April 4.   ICD Canada would like to share the evening with colleagues from throughout Canada and other countries.  The Gala will take place in Buhler Hall starting at 5:30 pm.  The dress code for ICD guests is business or black tie optional.

The Museum takes one on a journey of inspiration unlike anything experienced before.  It is the only museum in the world solely devoted to human rights awareness, education and the evolution, celebration and future of human rights.  The national museum rises from the prairies earth in Winnipeg at the Forks, where the Red and Assiniboine rivers meet on Aboriginal Treaty One Land – a historic meeting place for thousands of years.  This is a unique opportunity to celebrate a historical event in a most historical environment.

The Centennial Gala tickets ($150) can be purchased by completing this link.  The form provides the option to pay with a credit card (via Paypal) or with a cheque. If you choose to pay by cheque, instructions will be sent to you on how to send the cheque after you complete the form.
